ASHCAN SCHOOL The Ashcan School was a development which was essential and in a manner 1 inescapable with the outset of the twentieth century. This development in craftsmanship was achieved by a bunch of specialists who combined on New York City around the turn of the century.2 The significant Ashcan craftsmen who will be talked about later are Robert Henry ( 1865-1929), George Luks (1866-1933), Everett Shinn (1876-1953), George Bellows (1882-1925), John Sloan (1871-1951), and William Glackens ( 1870-1938).3 These were the significant individuals from the Ashcan School. This is a gathering of specialists who are credited with recording the conventional life on a human level in New York City during this unfathomable time of change. As a result of these specialists we have an image of New York not founded on the landmarks or structures yet dependent on the connection and the conjunction of the individuals who molded the general public which was rising. The island of Manhattan was solidified into the more prominent New York City in 1898. As a result of this the city was changed from a nineteenth century seaport with cobblestone boulevards into a twentieth century city of high rises and metros. The craftsmen of the Ashcan development saw this changing society in human terms. They saw this in a light which delineated the collaboration of such a significant number of various societies which were being pushed together. They recorded these progressions on a level which the conventional individual could comprehend. In light of the Ashcan School we have an image of society which one truly can't comprehend in the midst of the overwhelming scene of overwhelming structures and expanding technology.4 To comprehend the Ashcan development it is important to look all the more carefully at a portion of the significant craftsmen who were included. George Bellows moved to New York in 1904 after he dropped out of Ohio State University following his lesser year. Once in New York he tried out classes at The New York School of Art.
